Our Chairperson, Gay Murphy, has been recognised for her contribution to the Relay For Life initiative and cancer research by winning the overall award at this year's South East Radio and Talbot Hotel Outstanding Achievement Awards
The win was an acknowledgement of her role in bringing the Relay for Life initiative to Wexford and making it one of the most successful fundraising events in the county over the last three years.
In the wake of receiving her award Mrs Murphy said she was humbled to receive it and indicative of her thoughtful nature she was also quick to acknowledge the other 11 monthly award recipients and commented:
In my eyes, we're all winners and that's what it's all about; the incredible contribution that everyone of us has made to our community.
Gay got involved in the Relay initiative as a result of her own personal journey with cancer but she said Relay for Life is not about any one person.
There are so many people who give so much to make Relay the success that it is and I was honoured to accept the award in recognition of all that work.
She said the people of Wexford should feel proud about the success of Relay for Life and that the local people in the Model County have a great way of coming together to support others in times of need.
Through the Relay for Life Wexford social media page Mrs Murphy thanked her family and friends for their ongoing support.
She also paid tribute to her late mam who passed away shortly before Christmas from pancreatic cancer.
I know she was looking down on me on Friday night so while I accepted the award on behalf of everybody involved in Relay for Life I also accepted it in memory of a great woman, my mam.
